Ideas for an Eco-Friendly Bedroom

How to make your bedroom eco-friendly - Wholesome Culture - Blog

An Eco-Friendly bedroom not only supports the environment but it also helps your health and wellbeing! With all the sustainable materials, brands and various styles there are many ways to design a stylish bedroom with low environmental impact!

Here are few ideas to create an Eco-Friendly bedroom:

Organic Bedding: For the Eco-Friendliest bedding, material should always be organic, like cotton, wool, or hemp. Bamboo fabrics are also highly sustainable. Organic sheets are more expensive, but they’re a worthwhile investment. Organic wool and cotton bedding or blankets are warmer and softer to touch, making your bed a cozy place to rest.

Bamboo Pillows: I recently switched to a bamboo pillow for my bed, and it has been great! Since bamboo is plentiful and fast growing it has a smaller environmental footprint than other materials. Bamboo pillows are typically manufactured from all natural Eco-Friendly bamboo pulp. The pillows are spongier than cotton and stay cooler on hot Summer nights.

Ethical and Sustainable Blankets: When searching for a snuggly blanket for your bed look for materials like organic cotton, Tencel, hemp, linen and wool. These naturally biodegradable fibers do not cause as much harm on the environment when they are washed or thrown out at the end of their life. Also, research brands that prioritize transparency and have certifications like Fair Trade and SA8000.

Solid Wood Furniture: Solid wood is renewable, good for the climate, zero waste, durable and will last longer. It’s the best choice if you’re in the market for brand-new furniture for your bedroom. The Eco-Friendliest wood furniture is second hand!

Second Hand Furniture: Buying second hand furniture has so many benefits such as saving money and more limited impact on the environment. If you love a good DIY project, making over a piece of furniture represents a perfect way to get your creative juices flowing. You can transform the piece to match the style in your bedroom.

Purify the Air: Every now and then open the windows for some fresh air and let the toxins out. You can additionally use an air purifier to help clean the air in your bedroom. My favorite option for cleaner air is to add plants! Plants bring life to a room and will purify the air naturally.

Lighting: For the most energy efficient lights, look for an energy star certification. The LED light bulb is one of the most energy efficient and quick developing lighting options. Quality LED light bulbs last longer, are more durable, and are better light quality than other types of lighting. They may be more expensive than standard bulbs but with LED’s you will have to buy less over time, saving money.
